Chasing Beauty: My Cosmetic Surgery Takeover

Product Description

Chasing Beauty is the story of how and why an ordinary young woman surgically rearranged her entire face before age thirty-six. Born to uninvolved parents, author Jamieson Dale developed into a lonely girl with a voluptuous figure but a plain face. Attention to image both inside and outside of home suggested to Jamieson that her attractive body made of her an object. Through cosmetic surgery, Jamieson wanted a beautiful face to make herself into a person: one worthy of love, and of survival. Jamieson wanted-fifteen different times-to believe in the magic implied in a cosmetic surgical transformation. She failed-fifteen different times-to find it; but in the end found a kind husband and a shaky peace with herself as an aging woman. Ultimately, Chasing Beauty is an examination of loneliness. It is about the dichotomous need for and fear of human connection; and the emotional strength of adopting the burden of loving oneself. Jamieson learns by the end of her chase for beauty that it alone won't make intimacy feel safe. Visit ChasingBeauty.com

I just read Chasing Beauty and although im not big reader,i finished it a day and a half!!
It was very sad,yet so real for many of us.Not only for teens and women, but for their boyfriends,
husbands and dads who"just dont get" a females view of themselves and insecurity they deal with.
What this author didnt realize was that she was trying to fix something that wasnt "broke" on the outside,
yet shattered on the inside. She had no one to mend those broken pieces as a young girl, so there it lay
all crushed inside.I hope readers learn from this book,1.to not ignore the obvious(as i did) no matter how
uncomfortable it may be. 2.stop judging yourself as well as those around you,God did not make anyone perfect
3.Parents can learn alot from this book, this will make you WANT to be a better parent because you are your childs
future!!!!I hope you get as much out of this book as i did!
And to the author, bravo!!youre as brave and stong as
    your... Read more

This book illustrates why so many women choose plastic surgery for ill-chosen reasons, to somehow attempt to fill a void in their lives. Jamieson's story of childhood neglect and feelings of inadequacy leads her into the world of plastic surgery. Searching for acceptance and love through outward appearance, "the pursuit of beauty", she undergoes various procedures to alter her image. Her youth and naivete makes her idealistic. What seems like a quick fix leads to more surgeries and even deeper psychological trauma. She suffers at the hands of incompetent surgeons and is forced into a cycle of cosmetic surgery in order to begin healing both physical and emotionally. She finds caring and competent physicians who help her overcome past mistakes and create an image she can be comfortable with. Along the way, Jamieson discovers that self acceptance and inner peace is more much important than physical beauty, and will long outlast it as well. The book is highly readable as Jamieson... This memoir shows the sad and self-destructive futility of trying to identify with feminine beauty as a life survival tool. Jamison is a sympathetic 'everywoman' trying to cope in today's image-focused society.
